Category: Developing scripts

"Well, I shout at the radio," she says, laughing, "And I know thats old."

What Dench says shed like to do next is keep working. She often gets scripts that sound like something shes already done, the actress explains, "And what you long for is a script thats not remotely like the first one. The most wild, way-out thing you can think of, thats what Id like to do next. Something that isnt in my ken."

"You get approached by mostly people my grandsons age, 15 and up," she says. "His friends are inclined to come to our house and imagine its a bit like MI6… Its very good street cred for young chaps. Thats a very nice thing, because thats how you get an audience for the future. As many things as you can appeal in, to all ages, thats important if you want to keep the theatre in your life. And I do mean, essentially, the theatre."

Not surprisingly, being James Bonds boss has won her a huge following among teenagers.

Being in India with old buddies, "There was that feeling of being in a theatre company," she says. " You learn how another person acts, about the time they take, and their method of acting, and thats as important as telling the story or interpreting the character… My husband used to say that I was in theatre because I was so nosey," she says, laughing. "Because I liked to know about other people so much."

She has every acting award available (and multiples of some), the Queen named her a Dame of Order of the British Empire 25 years ago and shes still fully employed at 77, so you dont really need us to tell you that Dame Judi Dench is bulous.

Dench has been an actor for more than 50 years. She became a movie star late in life through her role as Queen Victoria in the film Mrs. Brown (1997), and by playing M in the James Bond movies.

But: Dame Judi Dench is bulous. Really bulous.

She happily describes the nearly 10 weeks in India shooting Dench enjoys life at?acting scriptsthe film as, "An assault on the senses, just as my character says. But within 24 hours, I was completely scinated and bewitched by the country… The beauty of the people I thought astounding, and the colour, the noise, the smell, everything about it, is completely staggering. We made some remarkable new friends, and I cant wait to go back there."

Does she ever catch herself thinking shes old?

Dench had some old friends with her in India, too. The cast includes people (Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith) shes worked with many times.

At a press conference here for her new movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Dench proves to be engagingacting scripts, amusing and incisive.

Actually, AL.com first reported incorrectly via The Birmingham News that Lindsey was 76. I suspect MSNBC picked the story up without checking anything. When it comes to accuracy, I would trust The News over MSNBC or any other Internet-based news sources. Most Internet news sources are aggregate sites–essentially they lift their news from other sources. The News gathers its own information, and is a primary source. Having said all that, AL.com is NOT the Birmingham News. AL.com uses content from The News, Huntsville Times and Mobile Press-Register. That creates an entirely different set of problems with accuracy.

Lots of laughs in Heaven tonight.

He moved to Hollywood in the early 1960s and then to Nashville in the early 1990s.

Updated at 2:36 p.m. to correct spelling.

He died shortly after midnight after a brief illness, said Bill Jarnigan, a longtime friend who helped start the George Lindsey Film Festival at the University of North Alabama infunny scripts Florence.

Lindsey&8217;s other TV credits included roles on &8220;MASH,&8221; The Wonderful World of Disney,&8221; CHIPs,&8221; The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,&8221; The Real McCoys,&8221; Twilight Zone&8221; and &8220;Love American Style.&8221; Reflecting on his career, he said in 1985: &8220;There&8217;s a residual effect of knowing I&8217;ve made America laugh. I&8217;m not the only one, but I&8217;ve contributed something.&8221;

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I guess I cGeorge Goober Lindsey dies at age 83; remembered ffunny scriptsan understand why some people would be a little embarrassed by the Goober stereotype, but George Lindsey pulled it off because he seemed to include himself in the joke. Seriously, there is a little bit of Goober in all of us, and we ought to laugh about it when it suces. George Lindsey was a great American humorist, and UNA should embrace him.

If I had a nickel for every laugh afforded to me by George Lindsey, Id have a billion dollars! The laughs, alone make me a rich man.

Farewell, George! You done Alabama proud! Or as Andy might say, extry good!

&8220;He wasn&8217;t feeling well then,&8221; Jarnigan said. &8220;He had been dealing with a lot of health issues.&8221;

The last time Jarnigan saw Lindsey was at the festival in March.

I knew someone who knew George and she told me a funny story. They were on a flight – sitting in first class. As the flight attendant came down the aisle to pick up cups and trash, George put his lse teeth in his glass and pretended to be napping. The mere imagination of the image causes my side to hurt!

&8220;People at UNA had always viewed him as Goober, and at one point, he had a love-hate relationship with Goober,&8221; Jarnigan said. &8220;Goober had stereotyped his career, and he couldn&8217;t escape that. But he did come to terms with it.&8221;

In 1998, he, Jarnigan and Bobbie Hurt started the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival. Over the years, the festival has brought luminaries such as Ernest Borgnine,免beian主机. Stephen Root and Ray Stevens to Florence.

Lindsey joined &8220;The Andy Griffith Show&8221; in 1964 when Nabors, portraying Gomer Pyle, left the program. Goober Pyle, who had been mentioned on the show as Gomer&8217;s cousin, thus replaced him.

rip goober..you were wonderful!…this report says he was 83..and i read 76 on other reports..so which is it?

Lindsey, who played football for Florence State, which became UNA, appeared on &8220;Gunsmoke,&8221; &8220;The Rifleman&8221; and other series, and he lent his voice to several animated Disney films (&8220;The Aristocats,&8221; &8220;Robin Hood&8221; and &8220;The Rescuers&8221;), but it was the role of Goober that earned him ns from around the world. He played the character &8212; cousin to fellow Alabamian Jim Nabors&8217; Gomer Pyle &8212; for nearly 30 years, in &8220;The Andy Griffith Show,&8221; &8220;Mayberry R.F.D.&8221; and on &8220;Hee-Haw.&8221;

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

&8220;He was so funny, but he could be serious, too,&8221; said Jarnigan, retired director of university relations at UNA. &8220;He would slip back and forth from being Goober to George, but either way, you loved him.&8221;

In 1956, Lindsey attended the American Theatre Wing in New York City and began his professional career on Broadway, appearing in the musicals &8220;All American&8221; and &8220;Wonderful Town.&8221;

George Goober Lindsey dies at age 83; remembered for his contributions to University of North Alabama

Early on, Lindsey was a bit &8220;estranged&8221; from UNA, Jarnigan said.

&8220;There&8217;s no place in the United States I can go that they don&8217;t know me. They may not know me, but they know the character,&8221; he told The Tennessean in 1980.

I cherish the friendship I had with George…I smile each tjme I look at the Gooober cufflinks he gave in Nashville 1972..

True to shion, leave it to the Bham News to screw their info. MSNBC, who I suspect is much more accurate in reporting, stated that Goober was 76 and that he died after an extended illness. He was not 83 and he didnt die after a brief illness as reported by the Snooze.

FOURTEEN shared a story of his own in the comments section under a post about a man who was jailed after being accused of using a counterfeit bill at a Quik Mart.

George Lindsey, the Fairfield-born and Jasper-raised comedian and actor best-known for his role as Goober Pyle on &8220;The Andy Griffith Show,&8221; died today in Nashville. He was 83.

Lindsey devoted much of his spare time to raising funds for the Alabama Special Olympics. For 17 years, he sponsored a celebrity golf tournament in Montgomery that raised money for the mentally disabled.The University of North Alabama awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1992.

&8220;He gave back to UNA in lots of ways that a lot of people would never know about,&8221; Jarnigan said.

Funny man! I never heard anything bad about him. Seems he was a very giving man. Judy, Judy, Judy!!! RIP.

&8220;At that time, we were the best acting ensemble on TV,&8221; Lindsey once told The Associated Press. &8220;The scripts were terrific. Andy is the best script constructionist I&8217;ve ever been involved with. And you have to lift your acting level up to his; he&8217;s awfully good.&8221;

He also came to terms with UNA and began enjoying being a distinguished alumnus.

Why did she sign on?

Most notably, they both showed up in 1998s best-picture Oscar winner,Shakespeare in Love, which just happened to be directed byMarigold Hotels John Madden.

Both movies already have proven their box-office might overseas. No surprise that a blockbuster likeThe Avengershas amassed more than $200 million. But the modestMarigold Hotelis holding its own as it zeroes in on $70 million.

Dench lights up. Hows tricks?

Soon enough, he plops down in a chair, looking rather tan after toiling on theNew Mexicoset ofTheLone Ranger. He seems preoccupied, however, and who can blame him after gazing uponJohnny Depps bizarrely costumed Tonto in the blazing-hot desert sun?

Finty, my daughter, reads scripts for me. She opened it to a line that says, What larks, Pip, taken from the Dickens classicGreat Expectations. Ive always used that phrase. Its a saying weve had in the mily. She said, Oh, Mom, dont read any further. What larks, Pip.

And, if they did, Wilkinson asks, what would you do?

Retirement does not seem to be in the cards for either actor as both continue to be in high demand for films big Wilkinson was inMission: Impossible Ghost ProtocolwithTom Cruise, Dench just wrapped up her seventh James Bond outing as spy chief M inSkyll and small, likeMarigold Hotel.

Critics say that is not the case withMarigold Hotel, which finds each senior struggling with unique circumstances while coping with living conditions that can kindly be described as shabby chic.

But she is like Evelyn in terms of the outward manifestations. She was initially alarmed to find the role was very like her. She thought people wouldnt be interested in it. It was hard to persuade her that the opposite would be true.

Less memorable wasWetherbyfrom way back inacting scripts 1985. Tell Dench that youve never seen it, and she doesnt hesitate to confess, Neither have I.

Oh, I am ill深圳学生网, he insists with a prickly resolve. I dont feel bad. But Ive got all these symptoms. Perhaps realizing the conversation has devolved into a clichd exchange about health woes, Wilkinson shoos away the topic: Enough about me.

Then there was 2002sTheImportance of Being Earnest. Dench politely mouths her reaction upon hearing the title, but Wilkinson has no such qualms: It wasnt good.

The rest of the cast also was glad for Hardcastles arrival. Says Dench, She came to everybodys rescue with a huge trunk of medicinal aids.

Dench is reminded how a miliar reference in the screenplay served as a sign she should finally visit India.

He was touched by Wilkinsons emotional scenes but saves his highest praise for Dench. My moments with her I will cherish for the rest of my career. She has this dangerous sense of humor and is so open and giving. There were no airs about anyone.

Rock stars of cinema

Another plus for Wilkinson is that his wife, actress Diana Hardcastle, was hired as a love interest for Pickups goatish rake. Was it like a second honeymoon? Weve never had a first honeymoon, he says with a harrumph. Ive done it a few times, worked with my wife. And initially I thought, This is not going to be so good. But it has always turned out to be a blissful experience.

Dev Patel, 22, the English-born star of 2008sSlumdog Millionaire, knew he had his work cut out for him when he agreed to play Sonny, the eternally optimistic if ill-equipped innkeeper who lures the oldsters to India. I was quivering in my boots to be working with these rock stars of cinema.

As for Wilkinson, whose breakout came in 1997sThe Full Montyas a steel-mill supervisor turned stripper,He is a very rare beast, Madden says. He is astoundingly versatile. He can play the most imperious maligned soul imaginable at one moment, and then he can play a decent nobody and pull it all off effortlessly. I do not know quite how hes doing what he is doing. He just works off basic instinct.

Dench: I dont know.

Another lurks on the multiplex horizon. The official kickoff movie of the summer might beThe Avengers, a comic-book conglomeration of the usual action-packed superheroes.

She and her late husband,Michael Williams, starred together in the British sitcomA Fine Romance, 1981-84.

Two words: John Madden. Their initial foray, 1997sMrs. Brown, earned the actress her first of six Oscar nominations for her performance as Queen Victoria. Hes the most delightful man to work with, she says.

Todd Plitt, USA TODAY

Having directed both actors multiple times, Madden knows what makes this stellar pair tick. Judi finds it easier to play a part very different from who she is, he says.

What superpower could match the grace that radiates from Dench, 77, as the silver-haired legend coos over doing a segment on theTodayshow the day before to promote animal adoption?

She was Queen Elizabeth I. He was a loan shark. And one of them took home anAcademy Awardfor a mere eight minutes of screen time. It wasnt me, Wilkinson duly notes.

Wilkinson: What would I do?

Theres a cozy comfort level between Dench and Wilkinson, whose guy-next-door visage masks an endless reserve of dramatic know-how, that comes from being colleagues on at least three other occasions. Indeed, the entireMarigold Hotelgang which includesMaggie Smith,Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilkinson,Celia Imrieand Ronald Pickup is quite uous, having performed together regularly over the years.

Such nice dogs there. A beagle, very nice. An Irish wolfhound. Nice dog that. I spoke to my mily about it, she says. Then, a bit sheepishly, Dench adds, Our dog is hearing every word of it. Denchs Evelyn is a debt-ridden widow who declares her independence by taking a job and learning the ways of the Internet as a blogger. Its a situation somewhat miliar to the actress, having lost her own husband of 30 years, actor Michael Williams, to lung cancer in 2001.

The growing Lindsey mily was soon following their dream to California. Most of Lindseys early Hollywood work was as tough guys and bad guys, mostly in westerns, such as The Rifleman and Gunsmoke. He also appeared in the The Real McCoys, The Twilight Zone, several Disney productions and three episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Hour, most notably the episode titled The Jar, one of his vorite performances.

Through it all, Lindsey always found time to support good causes. He was a fixture at charity fundraisers. The cause closest to his heart was Special Olympics. His annual George Lindsey Celebrity Golf Weekend raised over $1,000,000 for Alabama Special Olympics from 1973 to 1988. One of the legacies of that effort was the George Lindsey Aquatic Center in Tuscaloosa.

After Lindsey was discharged from the Air Force, the newlyweds moved to his home turf in Alabama. With his college degree (and a teachers certificate) and Air Force experience, Lindsey landed a job coaching basketball and baseball and teaching history at Hazel Green High School in Madison County.

Lindsey had become one of the busiest performers in show business. He was a frequent guest star on top television shows and made countless guest appearances on talk shows and game shows. Movie roles, including voice-over work for vorite Disney animated features, and a full slate of stand-up comedy, both as a headliner and as an opening act for top country music acts, kept Lindsey in demand. He was also spokesperson for Getty Oil Truck Stops and Liberty Trouser Company, and he opened a chain of fleetingly successful George Lindseys Family Steak Houses. He even recorded a few albums of both comedy and country music, including tunes by some of Nashvilles top songwriters and a few that Lindsey co-wrote.

Lindsey thrived in Florence. He eventually rose to starting quarterback for the football team. His football prowess earned him a much needed scholarship, which allowed him to finish his collegiate career at Florence State. He also performed regularly with the college theater group. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in biological science and physical education.

And from there bloomed a career of both embracing and running from Goober-most prominently during two decades as a regular on the syndicated Hee Haw on which he dressed as Goober but was usually addressed as George. Over the years, Lindsey made his peace with the role that had pigeonholed him. As he wrote in his What Mayberry Means to Me poem, which he used as his signature finale for his stand-up act for 30 years, The thing I like about Mayberry, most of all, its made ol Goober rich!

–>Nashville, TN– Known around the world as Goober actor and comedian George Goober Lindsey died early Sunday morning after an extended illness.

After Hee Haw ended production in 1992, Lindsey, who was recently divorced, made his permanent home in Nashville. He maintained a busy schedule of stage and film work. He embraced the Goober character to the point that he often gave up his customary tuxedo and wore the Goober Suit for his stand-up shows. In the wake of the hit Return to Mayberry made-for-TV movie in 1986, Lindseys appearances at Mayberry reunion shows and festivals drew large crowds of enthusiastic ns over the next two decades. Several television retrospectives for The Andy Griffith Show also garnered high ratings. In 2004, Lindsey shared the TV Land Legend Award with other members of the Griffith cast and crew.

Lindsey got a call in 1962 to audition for the one-episode role of a gas station attendant on The Andy Griffith Show. He thought he had the job, but at the last minute Jim Nabors was given the role of Gomer Pyle, which evolved into a bigger part and a springboard to stardom for Nabors. When Lindsey saw that first episode featuring Gomer, he mously kicked in the screen on the television set in his living room. As he wrote in his autobiography, he was furious about losing the part. Not only that, but now I didnt have a TV to watch Ben Casey on.

I was the worst teacher in the world, Lindsey later said. After a painful year at Hazel Green High, Lindsey decided to put everyone out of the misery of his teaching. He was accepted at the prestigious American Theater Wing in New York City. With the help of GI Bill funds, he studied at the American Theater Wing for two years and loved every minute of it. To help pay the bills during and after this time, he worked as a comedian and actor in nightclubs and coffeehouses. He was noticed by agents from the William Morris Agency, and he signed with them to represent him.

Gas station notwithstanding, the Lindsey mily of Georges youth felt the full weight of the Great Depression. Those hard times were later a rich source of material for his comedy act, with jokes guaranteed to get a laugh, such as: We were so poor that wed eat beans for breakst, drink water for lunch and swell up for supper.

Born in Fairfield, Ala., on December 17, 1928, George Smith Lindsey was raised in Jasper, Ala., and was the only child of Alice Smith Lindsey and George Ross Lindsey. As a young boy, Lindseys best buddies were his dog One Spot and his pal Sappo, a lifelong friend and a popular foil for Lindseys stand-up comedy act.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lindseys memory may be made to: Special Olympics Alabama, 880 South Court Street, Montgomery, AL 36104; UNA Foundation, with a designation to the George Lindsey Film and Digital Media Scholarship,深圳学生社区. Nashville television stationWSMVwas one of the first to report his death. They shared a copy of Lindseys obit and a statement from Andy Griffith with WFMY News 2.

Next up was the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Lindsey lasted a semester there, but couldnt afford the tuition for a second semester. It was probably just as well. As he joked in his 1995 autobiography, Goober in a Nutshell, I was in remedial everything. I was even in remedial lunch. He was, however, able to scrape together enough money to enroll at Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama).

In addition to hosting the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival the last 15 years, Lindsey continued to find varied and fulfilling work. From NBCs News Radio in 1997 and serving as host of the Turner South series Liars & Legends in 2000 to the country music single and video for Find Me a Man Like Goober in 2007 and Larry the Cable Guys Hula -Palooza Christmas Luau in 2009, Lindsey constantly found opportunities to savor the spotlight and bring smiles to as many ces as possible. He was an eager participant in Salute to the Kornfield, a Hee Haw reunion created for both a series of DVDs in 2011 and a cable TV special this year.

Lindsey often commented that he was torn about what he wanted his tombstone George Goober Lindsey Dies, Andy Griffith Releasesto say. One choice goes for the joke: I told you I was sick. The other goes for the heart: I hope I made you laugh.

When Lindsey was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1983, it was in recognition of his work as a Youth Benector for Special Olympics more so than for his own athletic accomplishments in high school and college. His receipt of the Minnie Pearl Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 was also primarily in recognition of his charitable works. For that reason and because comedienne Minnie Pearl had been such an important friend in his life, Lindsey often said that award was the one that meant the most to him. (Thats not to say that he didnt also appreciate receiving the Tire Gauge to the City of Nashville during Goober Pyle Day in 1990-presented on behalf of the citys mayor by country musics Bellamy Brothers.)

George Lindsey is survived by son George Lindsey, Jr., of Woodland Hills, Calif.; daughter Camden Jo Lindsey Gardner, her husband Russell and their sons, Carson Cole Gardner and Andrew Liam Gardner, all of Valencia, Calif.; a cousin, Rebecca Weber of Gadsden, Ala.; and his dear companion of many years, Anne Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.

Statement by Andy Griffith About George Lindsey:George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit. In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago. We would talk about our health, how much we missed our friends who passed before us and usually about something funny.

After he graduated from college, Lindsey joined the Air Force. He was assigned to funny scriptsspecial services and to be a swimming instructor. At one point during his service at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, he served as personal lifeguard for General Curtis LeMay, head of the Strategic Air Command.

Not to worry. Lindseys destiny was still Mayberry. In 1964, Lindsey landed the role of Gomers cousin Goober Pyle, who was to be Gomers heir apparent at Mayberrys filling station. Seven full seasons of acting work as Goober followed for Lindsey, four on The Andy Griffith Show and then three on the sequel series, Mayberry R.F.D.

Goobers Obituary: George Lindsey, wasbest known for his portrayal of dim yet lovable gas station mechanic Goober Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show, died at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 6 after a brief illness. He was 83.

Shortly after landing the role of Goober on The Andy Griffith Show, Lindsey upstaged himself with the birth of his beautiful daughter Camden. With son George now two, the Lindsey mily of 1964 was hitting on all cylinders and running like a scalded dog.

George often told me his fondest memories of his life in show business were the years he spent working on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry R.F.D. They were for me, too.

Lindsey liked to hang around his Aunt Ethels gas station, where the mechanics wore felt caps to keep the grease and oil from dripping into their hair. Those caps would inspire Lindseys trademark beanie worn by Goober.

I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, I love you. That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. I love you.

His alma mater in Florence remained a passion for Lindsey the rest of his life. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the university in 1992 and was inducted into the universitys Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He was proud to be a co-founder of the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival in 1998. Several scholarships are also endowed in his name. The university is home to the George Lindsey Collection, which contains most of his television and movie scripts and much of his other career memorabilia. Lindsey was proudly on hand during the film festival in March of this year for the dedication of the George Lindsey Theater on the UNA campus.

Before long, Lindsey landed the role of Moose in the production of All American at Broadways Winter Garden Theatre and later the role of the Wreck in an industrial show version of Wonderful Town, which toured the country after premiering on Broadway. He also began to get some work in television. But by r Lindseys biggest hit during this time was the birth of his son George in 1962. In his thers eyes, a star was born.

Much of his time with the Air Force was spent at Pinecastle Air Force Base near Orlando. He was responsible for putting together plays and other entertainment for the servicemen. He also worked on plays at nearby Rollins College in Winter Haven. It was at Rollins that Lindsey met and fell in love with Joyanne Herbert. They were married in 1955.

Visitation and funeral arrangements will be announced. Arrangements are being handled by Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home of Nashville.

As a student in Jasper, Lindsey was a good athlete. At Walker County High School, he excelled in football and basketball. One of the few other official high school activities he enjoyed was doing theatrical productions. He was as surprised as anybody when he graduated high school. With no real plans for his future other than a desire to be in the spotlight, Lindsey enrolled in local Walker Junior College. After being invited not to come back for a second semester at Walker, Lindsey enrolled (that is to say, was sent away) for a year of junior college at Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo.

Hopefully Arndt will follow the path of his predecessor and have the script follow as closely to the book as possible. Then its up to directorFrancis Lawrenceto bring the words to life.  Production is hoped to start sometime in the ll as Catching Fire is under a very tight time schedule due toJennifer Lawrencescommitment to film the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Hopefully neither the script nor the movie will not be sacrificed in order to get it done.

Arndt first came onto the Hollywood radar when his script Little Miss Sunshine won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Hes also credited for writing Pixars Toy Story 3 and was recently hired to do a rewrite on the Phineas and Ferb movie for Disney.

When it was announced thatGary Ross would not be helming Catching Fire, the high profile sequel to The Hunger Games深圳学生社区, the studio knew they not only lost a director but a screenwriter too. See, Ross had rewritten the original script that was scribed by Billy Ray to the point that Rays version was said not be used at all. Now that Ross is gone, so was the opportunity for him to do work on a rewrite for Catching Fire.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their milies a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the ces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

I lived in West Africa for two-and-a-half years as a Peace Corps volunteer and when I left the Peace Corps I went to New York University Graduate Film School to get my second masters, the first was in education. One of my Peace Corps buddies考研论坛, he ended up doing work in Africa in Rwanda and met a genocide survivor and this guy wanted to be a filmmaker so he put us in touch and we e-mailed each other for several years. Then in 2009 he called me up and said come to Rwanda and help me make a movie, and since he knew I had lived in Africa and taught film, he trusted me to write a new script and make this movie.

They were extremely proud. That I call our Academy Award because I made it for them in mind and I wanted them to be proud of what they were seeing. Its kind of crazy… a child of the diaspora born in Kingston, grew up in the States, lived in Africa, go to Rwanda and make a movie and come back so I had a perspective that was outsider but insider at the same time.

Whats in the pipeline?

It was very, very difficult. Shooting was 15 days and it was a small budget and I was working with non-professional actors and we are dealing with a topic of the history in a country so there was the responsibility on our shoulders to keep it authentic. It was a very intense but extremely rewarding experience. Every day on set there was a miracle that happened to make it possible. This film was not like any other that was done on Rwanda, the people took ownership of this one and they felt like it was their story so there was a much more personal connection and they were extremely proud of not only the film but the process of it. The other films that have gone through Rwandans were assistants and assistants to assistants; we made Rwandans the head of their departments and they ran the show, while we were teaching and sharing knowledge.

My earliest memory of Kingston is actually painful. It was when my mother left for the States when I was about four and I remember crying as she was going up the tarmac and onto the plane. I was bawling so hard and my brothers were holding me back. I wouldnt see her for several months until she had the money to send for my brothers and me to go to the States. I think I still have a fear of loss because of that moment, its such a traumatic thing for a child to experience.

If you were the mayor of Kingston for a day, what would you do?

My philosophy is to always be humble because we are all replaceable.

I dont necessarily have a vourite. I try to study everyone and I have taken away a lot from many. The people who have had the most influence on me are probably Hitchcock and Orson Welles because those are the first people I studied, but Spike Lee is a mentor of mine. Melvin Van Peebles is also a mentor. I took a directing writing class with Tony Gilroy who wrote the Bourne Supremacy movies and I got a lot of my writing style from him.

I feel Ive been disconnected from Kingston for so long — this is my first trip back in a long time — so I would probably not take full advantage because there is so much I dont know about this place. I started film school and Ive been running around the world going on someone elses dime except for Jamaica since I couldnt afford to come back and didnt have the time, so the ct that Im here now is amazing.

I actually just got off the phone with a producer in Atlanta for a film that looks like its going to get funded next; its a dramatic comedy of a mother and son reuniting, which we are hoping to shoot this summer. At this moment the film that Im supposed to do is a street crime drama, a gangster movie that on anybody elses lips would be like not another one of these but what I do with my work is that I bring a certain level of humanity and its set in my neighbourhood in New Jersey and follows the vein of Boyz In The Hood. Its an independent film and Ive teamed with an author J M Benjamin, from my town, who is a former drug dealer who went to jail, to write the screenplay from his book My Manz and Em.

Jerk chicken on a night when its not so hot and you can feel the breeze going. I also used to love ice cream from Devon House.

What are your earliest memories of Kingston?

I have an epic film that I would want to make, probably a $50- to $100-million film. It takes place in Northern and West Africa, parts of the Mediterranean and Southern part of Europe. Its a powerfully and beautifully epic story that needs to be told and Im in a place in the business now that no one would trust me with that type of budget even if I am capable or not. I want to get to the place where people will look at me and say, absolutely, of course. I think that film will change the game.

We premiered the movie at the Sundance Film Festival, which is a huge dream for any filmmaker just to even have a film at Sundance, much less walk away with an award. We won the World Cinema Audience Award. More than 100 films were submittedMy Kingston – Alrick Brown and just to have ours in competition and win was great. Since then, I have taken it to Singapore, Budapest and screened it in Rwanda.

Since I was in seventh grade, I have worn the same cologne. Its called Kouros and I cannot bring myself to wear anything else.

Collins, as it were, has already been confirmed as having a hand in translating herCatching Firebook into film form. Shortly after completing his first script draft for the adaptation, Beaufoy revealed toE! Onlinethat he had handed the screenplay over to the author, who provided some vital insight into how he could improve his subsequent draft(s).

That&8217;s all to say, with the originalHunger Gamesmovie cast all set to return &8211; including, central players like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth (see above) &8211; and the reliable writing talent involved,Catching Fireis shaping up nicely on the actingand script side of things.

It doesn&8217;t appear that Collins is ultimately going to be quite so directly involved with crafting the final shooting script forCatching Fire, as she was with that forThe Hunger Games(snagging a co-writing credit for her efforts). Still, the news that she&8217;s played &8211; and should continue to play &8211; an active role in the film&8217;s creative process, certainly sounds like a good thing.

Lionsgate wants to bring screenwriter Michael Arndt aboard to rewrite the initial draft of theCatching Firescript深圳学生社区, penned byfellow Oscar-winner Simon Beaufoy. It shouldn&8217;t betoo substantial a rewriting process, though, seeing how production on theHunger Gamessequel is slated to begin by the tail end of this summer.

Arndt has done well by himself since he quit his day job as Matthew Broderick&8217;s assistant, in order to write the screenplay fscript writing‘Toy Story 3′ Screenwriter Up to RewriorLittle Miss Sunshine(which landed him an Academy Award). Thereafter, Arndt went on to pen the script forToy Story 3, contributed to the screenplay for this summer&8217;sRock of Ages, did a refurbishing of Disney&8217;sSnow White-inspired martial arts epic,Order of Seven&8211; and is handling the Mouse House&8217;s impendingPhineas and Ferbmovie.

As for the direction: many ns have already expressed mixed sentiments about a more artistic filmmaker likeRoss being swapped for someone like Francis Lawrence&8211; who&8217;s more a proficient director-for-hire than auteur. As mentioned before, Catching Fire should be pretty consistent withHunger Games from a storytelling perspective; however, there is good reason to wonder if the switch-up in directors might result in some incongruity between the movies&8217; respective style, on a strictly technical level.

Catching Fireremains scheduled to begin a theatrical release in the U.S. on November 22nd, 2013.

“Things always do have to change otherwise there’s always something very flat about very ithful adaptations. But on the other hand, there’s an extremely loyal n base and readership and you just have to be careful of how many liberties you do take. So fortunately Suzanne is here to help me&8230; she’ll tell me, ‘You can’t do that. You must do this.’ Because there are some things that are sacrosanct to her readers and she knows them very well and she’ll let me know.”

58 minutes agoI think lawrence is a capable director. He may not be amazing but I think he has the potential to make a great film. Regarding the screenplay they have had 2 great writers work on it so no complaints there

TheHunger Gamesscript was also overseen by a capable crew of writing talent, including Billy Ray (Shattered Glass), Gary Ross and the source material&8217;s creator, Suzanne Collins. Lionsgate clearly hopes to replicate that solid final result withCatching Fire, by hiring-on two gentlemen who have both Oscars sitting on their shelves &8211; and several acclaimed writing efforts under their belts.

Suffice it to say, signing on to refine theCatching Firescript (whichHeat Vision&8216;s reportimplies is likely to happen) reads as yet another smart move on Arndt&8217;s part.

9 hours agoI have no doubts regarding the screenplay (well I have a few now that Collins is not co-writing, and the other two guys seem adamant on changing things &8216;just because&8217;). But I have a lot of concerns about the direction. &8216;I am Legend&8217;, Lawrence&8217;s best work, was quite slow and shallow at many segments. It was still good, but nothing as artsy as that rush to the Cornucopia scene in THG. Catching Fire is choke full of everything, really, it will take a really bad director to screw it up. But in the hands of a capable director, this could be an epic of film .

Indications that Collins has something in the way of a &8220;final say&8221; on what elements from the originalCatching Firebook are retained (or, alternatively, discarded) should also help theHunger Gamessequel maintain a consistent feel with that of its predecessor. Admittedly, an inconsistent style is something that previous best-selling literature-turned movie franchises have suffered from &8211; such as the first fewHarry Potterfilms (orThe Twilight Sagain general).

Jennifer Lawrence in &39;The Hunger Games&39;

Still, the bigger reason for concern right now is simply the furious pace at whichCatching Firewill have to make script writingits way down the production pipeline, in order to hit theaters next year. Passing over who&8217;s calling the shots, it sounds like a challenging prospect forany filmmaker to handle. Here&8217;s hoping for the best&8230;

Things are starting to move quickly on theCatching Firefront, now thatFrancis Lawrence has been confirmed to direct the followup to Gary Ross&8217;Hunger Gamesadaptation &8211; which has pulled in high critical marksandmore than $600 million in theaters around the globe. (Just a bit of pressure for Lawrence&8230;)
